Live Show Videos- PLAY ALONG AT HOME!

For our live episode, we watched a lot of clips, and those clips include a lot of visual things that you might not really get just by listening. So a kindly gentleman uploaded all the clips to YouTube and posted them here, with some gentle commentary. The links to the original episodes are in the descriptions, so if you're not terrified by the clips, head on over and have a listen. They're entertaining! I promise!

Bots Masters

Giancarlo picked Bots Masters, and we still talk to him. The rest of are exceptionally kind.

The opening to this show is insane. It is noise, it's chaos, it's supposed to introduce you to the world of the show. Instead, it melts your brain. If you follow any of this, you should seek immediate medical attention.

Blondie & Dagwood

Another show suggested by Giancarlo, another absolute disaster. The show is a 30 minute adaption of an 80 year old comic strip that hasn't had a new joke in at least 30 years. First, we played the intro, in which three words turned into a song that is the key to madness.

Following that, our guest Pete Lepage (of Comic Book Club Live) said that he always felt bad for Blondie, because Dagwood is such a submoron. Which segues perfectly to this clip:

Camp Candy

This was an Andrea suggestion, and again, we suffered. This show seems like it should be a recipe for success- John Candy, a comedy legend, was involved, as was Eugene Levy. So where could it go wrong? How about the script, the animation, the television executives deciding to air it...

First, one of its many, many references to the weight of the titular star. Ironic, since his weight killed him. Not too many laughs about that...

But hey, there were also "jokes" from the animals inhabiting the world. By "jokes" we may, words that are said with the intonation a joke might be delivered with.

Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling

Another show that was about real people, though this one didn't even bother to have the actual people voicing themselves (Emmy Award Winner Brad Garrett is the Hulkster). This might actually be the worst in terms of, well, everything. Except homosexual subtext. It does that pretty well.

The show did feature some of the folks from the WWF world in what can only be described as "comedy sketches." Though that is an extremely generous description.

First, Gene Okerlund, Tito Santana and Captain Lou Albano have a "hilarious" experience at dinner. It actually might be hilarious, unfortunately Tito Santana and Captain Lou are a pair of real mumblecores.

In the second, "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart brags to Gene Oakerlund how he's been named "Man of the Year" or has he? Hilarity ensues. Wait, no, it's confusion.

Jem and the Holograms

Of any show highlight during our liveshow, Jem and the Holograms is by far the high-water mark. That show was truly, truly adequately entertaining (see what I did there?) Anyway, these clips are from the pilot episode. There's a lot of crap going in, which is tough to contextualize. So instead I'll just say what I found entertaining.  First clip is the bad guy (Eric) introducing the evil band (Misfits) who ride into his office on vehicles (Guitar-shaped motorcycles). Misfits indeed. Keep your eyes peeled for Eric's evil face when he suggests "photo shoots".

Later in the episodes, the title band crashes a Battle of the Bands that is supposed to be rigged for the Misfits to win. To understand what's happening (as far as that is possible), you must understand that Jem and the Holograms are literally holograms. They have access to a fancy computer hologram maker that turns regular teenagers into crazy 80s rock stars who wear 80s fashions unironically. But Jem is also the record company co-owner Jerrica (those are supposed to be "R"s not "S"s). So she needs some holographic help should Jem and Jerrica need to be seen together. It's like a 40's screwball comedy with only one actor... luckily everyone in their world are morons.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

The only show we've featured twice (not due to it's excessive quality...). This time around the X-men are involved. Cyclops is a ghost, Professor X is James Mason, and Wovlerine is a creepy Australian. Sounds like Bryan Singer watched this episode for all his background research, am I right?

The title Amazing Friends, Iceman and Firestar, former X-men both, visit the X-mansion. In a touching moment, Cyclops (who is haunting the X-mansion) introduces her to Wolverine, who wastes no time making an awkward attempt at socializing with the foxy Firestar. And everyone decides to ignore him.

Later on in the episode, Juggernaut burst through the X-mansion's wall, which, like the tv's at a furniture store, are only for decoration. But those X-men are so unfazed, they meerly swivel their chairs towards their great nemesis, and have mild interest. Keep an eye out in this one for Cyclops spookily announcing Juggernaut's presence, Iceman getting nailed in the face with a chunk of ice, and Wolverine meeting the one thing that can stop him- a brick wall.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

He-Man is not as good as you remember. If you disagree, you are lying to yourself.

In the episode, "Origin of the Sorceress," we meet He-Man's robot horse side-kick action figure, Stridor. Together, they battle a guy who looks like a giant Moses who lives in a fire ring in the sky. Real classic stuff.

But Saturday Morning Deathgrip has discovered that the episode ended slightly differently, but it was perhaps a little dark for a kid's show. You be the judge:

MUSIC SECTION

Oh yes, musical numbers are an essential part of all Saturday Morning Cartoons. Here we highlight a few that we saw.

First is a medley of Jem tunes. See if you can spot some of the very clever tricks their songwriters used to compose the songs featured in the show:

Next, a very catchy tune from a show that probably caused the 20 year gap between My Little Pony incarnations. Of course, it so perfectly captures the gender gap. Ladies, don't you feel that most men are smell just a bit like shredded cabbage that has been fermented by vinegar?

And, finally, we revisit that Hulk Hogan Battle of the Bands, to see what the Hulkster and his Good Guy Wrestler Friends performed to beat Roddy Piper and his Bad Guy Wrestler Friends. Here's a hint: any music competition won by this song is probably not a competition you want to attend, ever.
